Club 1000 Member - with George Camsey, one of the forefathers of green building. Georgia Institute of Technology Volunteer history includes extensive work in public and private schools, civic and private organizations, Habitat for Humanity, Community theatre, designing for numerous Christmas Houses, including Atlanta's Childkind fundraising efforts to benefit orphans, and various volunteer redesign efforts to benefit seniors. Career History: After working with Fred Curlin, AIA Architect, during college, Melissa started Design Associates, an interior design firm in Statesboro, GA. She served the community by renovating several period homes in the Statesboro area and providing interior design services for residents and small businesses around the state. Her interests took her on an extend tour of architecture and interior design across the country, during which she developed an interest in the environmental movement and eco-communities. Back in Georgia, she studied with Charles G. Ramsey, AIA, at Georgia Tech. Mr. Ramsey is a professor of Architecture and one of the founding fathers of the Green movement in America. In order to enhance her education, Melissa worked as a remodeler for Homework by Duggan and as a sales associate for West Building Supply in Atlanta. Her interior design business took her to Hilton Head Island, S.C. where she worked with Sally Hunter Interiors, Design Associates, and Hilton Head Interiors, teaching interior design workshops and providing interior design services for an illustrious clientele with a concentration on ocean front homes. One of her personal residences was featured on the cover of Hilton Head Monthly. We hope to obtain a copy of that cover in the future, for now, you may see a few non-professional photos of the room here. As a teacher at Savannah College of Art and Design Melissa graduated the first interior design student of the college. In Atlanta, her design firm taught seminars on various aspects of interior design, provided interior design services and Feng Shui consultations for residences and businesses. She has also provided design services for clients in Virginia and the Bahamas. Presently, Melissa calls Asheville, N.C. home, where she lives green. She is the owner of MC Interiors, and is a member of the Western North Carolina Green Building Council. Melissa regularly soaks in the local culture and incredible beauty, and plans to call this area home forever. She has three children, one son-in-law, and one grandson, one Italian Greyhound and a tuxedo grandcat.
